🧱 Consistent Concrete Quality 🚚 On-Time Delivery 🤝 Supplier & Contractor Expertise 📍 Locally Owned & Operated
Mortar is the bond that holds your block, brick, and stone work together. The wrong type for the application, or mortar that varies from bag to bag, leads to weak joints, cracking, and masonry that doesn't hold up through NYC's freeze-thaw winters. We supply mortar mix delivered to masonry job sites throughout Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan, consistent product on schedule so your masons don't slow down. Call (718) 939-3245 for a free estimate.
Any masonry job that requires laying block, brick, or stone needs a reliable source of mortar mix. Foundation work, block wall construction, brick pointing and repointing, stone masonry, and structural repairs throughout the borough all run on mortar. Flushing's dense stock of older attached homes and two-family buildings creates steady demand for pointing, foundation, and masonry repair work that consumes mortar consistently.
Getting the mortar type wrong for the application causes real problems. Type S mortar is the right choice for below-grade applications, foundations, retaining walls, and masonry exposed to soil or moisture. Type N mortar is the standard for above-grade, exterior, and interior load-bearing masonry. Using a lower-strength type where the application demands higher compressive strength is a common cause of mortar joint failure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Type S mortar has a compressive strength of at least 1,800 PSI and is used for at-grade and below-grade applications including foundations, retaining walls, masonry in contact with soil, patios, and sewers. Type N mortar has a medium compressive strength of at least 750 PSI and is used for above-grade exterior and interior load-bearing masonry, including walls, chimneys, and general block and brick work. Using Type S where Type N is sufficient adds unnecessary cost; using Type N where Type S is required creates a structural risk.
-
Below-grade masonry applications including foundations should use Type S mortar for its higher compressive strength and resistance to moisture. Type S is specified for at-grade and below-grade applications specifically because of those properties. For above-grade block wall construction, Type N is the general standard. If your project has engineered specifications, those will dictate the mortar type.
-
Mortar consumption depends on block or brick size, joint thickness, and wall area. For standard 8x8x16 CMU with 3/8-inch joints, approximately one bag of mortar covers a set number of blocks depending on the mix ratio and joint fill. We can help you estimate from your wall dimensions when you call. It's standard practice to order a buffer to avoid running short mid-course.
-
Yes. Higher-strength mortar types resist water absorption better, which matters in NYC's freeze-thaw climate. Joints that absorb water and freeze expand and crack the masonry, particularly on older buildings where original mortar has already deteriorated. Proper mortar selection and application protects the joint through repeated winter cycling.
