Concrete Volume Estimation in Flushing, NY: Order the Right Amount. Not More. Not Less.
Running short on a pour means scrambling for another truck. Ordering too much means paying for concrete you can't place.
🧱 Consistent Concrete Quality 🚚 On-Time Delivery 🤝 Supplier & Contractor Expertise 📍 Locally Owned & Operated
Concrete is measured and sold by the cubic yard. Getting the volume right before you order means your pour goes smoothly, your cost is controlled, and you're not making calls mid-pour trying to get another truck there before the existing load sets. We help contractors, homeowners, and builders estimate concrete volume for their projects before they place an order, so the number going into dispatch is accurate. Call (718) 939-3245 and we'll work through it with you.
WHEN YOU NEED CONCRETE VOLUME ESTIMATION
Before every pour. Concrete volume estimation isn't a separate service you schedule in advance. It's what happens when you call us with your project dimensions and we help you calculate what you need before we take your order. Whether you're a contractor who handles this routinely and wants a quick check, or a homeowner who's never ordered concrete and has no idea where to start, we do this for every customer before every delivery.
The stakes of getting it wrong run in both directions. Running short mid-pour means scrambling for a second truck, paying additional delivery and short-load charges, and risking a cold joint in the slab where the two pours meet. Ordering significantly more than needed means paying for yards you can't place and dealing with disposal of returned concrete. Ordering five to ten percent more than your calculated volume as a buffer against waste, spillage, and uneven subbase is standard practice. We help you land on the right number.
HOW CONCRETE VOLUME ESTIMATION WORKS
The formula is straightforward: length in feet, multiplied by width in feet, multiplied by thickness in feet, divided by 27, equals cubic yards. The key variable that most people underestimate is thickness, since slabs and flatwork are measured in inches in the field but need to be converted to feet for the calculation. A 4-inch slab is 0.33 feet thick. A 6-inch slab is 0.5 feet.
Call (718) 939-3245 with your project dimensions: the length and width of the area being poured, the intended slab thickness, and the project type. For irregular shapes, we break the area into rectangles and add them. For footings, walls, and columns, the calculation is slightly different and we'll walk through it. We add a five to ten percent buffer to the calculated volume and that's your order.
COST
Concrete volume estimation is something we do as part of every order. There's no separate charge. Call (718) 939-3245 and we'll help you get to the right number before placing your delivery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Multiply the length in feet by the width in feet by the thickness in feet, then divide by 27 to convert cubic feet to cubic yards. For a 4-inch thick slab, use 0.33 as your thickness. For a 6-inch slab, use 0.5. Add five to ten percent to the result to account for waste, spillage, and uneven subbase. Call us with your measurements and we'll confirm the calculation before you order.
-
Running short means a gap in placement, which creates a cold joint where the two pours meet. Cold joints are weaker than a continuous pour and can be visible on finished flatwork. Getting a second truck there quickly enough to avoid a cold joint depends on availability and travel time. It's a situation worth avoiding by ordering correctly the first time, with a buffer.
-
Yes. Industry practice is to add five to ten percent to your calculated volume. This accounts for the reality that subbase surfaces are never perfectly level, forms can spread slightly under load, some concrete stays in the truck drum and chute, and spillage happens. Returning a small amount of concrete is preferable to running short on the pour.
-
Footings are calculated as length times width times depth, divided by 27. Walls are calculated the same way, using height instead of depth. For L-shaped or irregular footings, break the shape into rectangles, calculate each section separately, and add them. We'll walk through any shape with you when you call.
-
Yes. If your project has separate pours, for example a footing and a foundation wall poured separately, or a slab poured in sections, we calculate each pour independently. This ensures the delivery for each phase is the right size and that separate pours are scheduled appropriately.
